#1355 20th July 2008….Leapfrog Hills Hashers met at Leapfrog’s for this weeks run in rapidly dropping temperatures. Two Stroke took the early lead when he pedalled off for a quick ride down to the weir with faithful hound Digger in tow, while returnees Leslie and Arlene waited with the regulars for the Hare’s briefing on her “excellent” run. The run was well-marked and interwove with the walkers throughout the trail. Passiona was called early for not marking checks which cost him dearly in the circle. The runners headed west through an orchard dodging potholes and puddles before meeting the walkers in the Black Cockatoo Reserve. Harry the dog caused some chaos when he decided to roll on a false trail and took out one whole circle. After running all tracks leading from this barely visible check, the runners who had returned from the roundabouts and alleys of Mundaring, then broke into two packs—those with local knowledge taking the short route home whilst others opted to run the whole route. Skippy in his efforts to be first home jumped over a fence and skidded to a halt just centimetres from the newly stacked fire. Another fence caused Big Rubber big problems on his walk. With the ravages of time hitting him hard his attempts to lift his leg over a fence nearly caused a soul-destroying injury. In a new innovation for the circle, the RA was fined for fining people when she had not been at the run. With “a little bird told me” as her catchcry, the cup was soon overflowing with silver from those who thought they were relatively safe for once. The Annual Awards were then presented before piping hot soup and a deluge of sweets concluded the afternoon’s festivities.
